Date: June 11-12, 2022

This is a family, fun event to raise money for the preservation of our sport. Please keep in mind your actions are being watched by our next generation. A trophy is not worth an altercation. All Master of Hounds decisions are final.

Trophies for 1st and 2nd Line, 1st and 2nd tree for all Coon Drag Classes and the Bear Drag, 1st place for Treeing Contest, 1st place for Iron dog.

Saturday Events and Classes: (Drags will not be held in any specific order)

Coon Drags:

A track will be laid with National Coon scent either by horse or eBike before each race.  5 to 8 dogs will be allowed in each heat. One judge will release the dogs at the start line and 2 judges will be at the coon tree to determine the first two dogs to cross the line and the first two dogs to tree on the coon.  The dogs must tree on the coon, not just bark, to be considered treed.  First and second place dogs will return and placed in a next heat until a final pack of no more than 8 dogs will run the final heat.  Judges’ decisions are final with one appeal available per individual per day.  Appeals can be presented to the Master of Hounds.  Master of Hounds will be the final decision if a rerun is required.

Coon Drag Classes:

  • Puppy – any dog less than 1 year old
  • Junior – any dog that has never trophied in a previous UHA Junior trial class
  • Senior – any dog can be entered into the Senior trial class
  • Over the Hill – any dog older than 8 years
  • Youth/Female – This class is for the youth or inexperienced handler. Should be under 16 yrs. old, female or approved by the Master of Hounds.

Treeing Contest:

Each dog entered will be released for 60 seconds at the coon tree.  All barks will be counted for the designated time. There will be a painted circle approximately 10 to 15 feet away from the tree.  If the dogs exits the circle, it will be disqualified from the contest. This is a treeing contest with the intent to see the dog sit or stand on the tree and bark like hell, not run around.  Barks will be counted by 2 judges and averaged for total number of barks.

Iron Dog: (This is a jackpot event; the total amount of entry money will be split with the winner and club 50/50.)

All dog entries will start outside of the painted circle around the coon tree. Dogs will be released at the same time.  Any dog the exits the circle is disqualified. Any dog that is involved with a dog fight, face barking, or head throwing will be disqualified and removed from the circle. Dogs are required to bark at least once every 10 seconds.  If they do not bark every 10 seconds, they will be disqualified. The circle will be small, and all handlers are expected to grab dogs as they are disqualified from the event.

Sunday Events:

Bear Drag: (This is a jackpot event; the total amount of entry money will be split with the 1st place winner(s) and club 50/50.)

A 4–8-mile drag will be laid early Sunday morning.  This is not intended to be an easy drag and if one dog finishes the race it will be deemed a valid race. If no dogs finish, the participants can request a refund or donate the entry fee to the Association.  All dogs will be lined up behind the designated starting line. All dogs will be released simultaneously as the start judge drops his arms. Two judges will be at the tree to video and catch the winners.  Trophies for 1st and 2nd Line, 1st and 2nd tree.

5 Dog Bear Pack Race:

A track will be laid with National Coon scent either by horse or eBike before each race.  5 dogs will be required in each heat. All five dogs must cross the line and tree on the coon to obtain a qualified time. One judge will release the dogs at the start line and 2 judges will be at the coon tree to determine final time.  All dogs must tree on the coon, not just bark, to be considered treed. Fastest finish time by the entire pack wins. Judges’ decisions are final with one appeal available per individual per day.  Appeals can be presented to the Master of Hounds. Master of Hounds will be the final decision if a rerun is required.
